The Satsuki Bonsai specialty magazine, “Satsuki Kenkyu”, has been steadily repeated since its commemorative first issue, published in 1970, and finally reached its 600th issue in the March issue of this year. There is no such thing as a specialized magazine that lasts 50 years with just one plant, and even if you expand the scope to a specialized magazine, there is no doubt that it has the best history in Japan.

Unraveling the history of Tochinoha Shobo, it goes back to the Satsuki boom of the 1965s. This boom triggered the predecessor to launch a publisher. The publisher who originally loved Satsuki did not create a specialty magazine in the wake of the boom, but a publisher created to sell Satsuki’s specialty magazine.

One of the factors that has led Satsuki Kenkyu to last so long is the location of Tochinoha Shobo. Tochinoha Shobo is located in Kanuma City, Tochigi Prefecture. Kanuma soil is considered to be the best place for cultivating Satsuki, and there are many professional Satsuki dealers in Kanuma City because of its location. In other words, it is a professional magazine loved by the locals.
